Kiawah Island is a ten-mile island running parallel to the South Carolina coast. The island is a mere 21 miles from historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Kiawah consists of private homes and villas, miles of pristine private beach, five championship golf courses, tennis courts, paved walking trails, numerous outdoor nature activities including the resort itself.

Traveling to Kiawah Island

FLYING

Kiawah Island is easily accessible by car. Kiawah is an easy 33-mile drive from Charleston International Airport (CHS) and 10-mile drive from Charleston Executive Airport (JZI).  From Charleston Airport (CHS) to Kiawah Island Resort:

  • CHS to Kiawah Resort Shuttle ($200 one way for up to 4 passengers, additional passengers at $50 each). To reserve, email  Villa_Concierge@kiawahresort.com with your arrival date, number of passengers, flight details and best contact number. The hotel can bill it to your guest room for your convenience.
  • Rental Car - Pickup and return to CHS. Rates may be similar to RT Uber/cab fare. Recommended as you will have transportation to use at your leisure during your stay.
  • Island Transportation Shuttle Service - www.island-transportation.com
  • Uber / Lyft will run around $90 one way and takes about 40-50 minutes.
  • CHS Taxi - As soon as you exit the baggage claim at Charleston airport, you will see the taxi rank just in front of you. You can walk to the front vehicle and tell the driver your destination. Rates similar to Uber/Lyft but may vary due to time of day.
  • Private Car transportation - Book through Viator or a provider of your choice. Rates may be higher than Uber/cab.

DRIVING

For visitors hailing from any of the Southeast’s major cities, a brief road trip leads to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, or Raleigh, the Island can be reached in under 6 hours.   Most notably, Kiawah is just 21 miles south of historic Charleston and can be reached in approximately 35 minutes by car. Get customized directionsKiawah Resort villa guests have complimentary self-parking during their stay.

Directions from Charleston Int'l Airport to Kiawah

  • Start driving West on International Boulevard toward Air Cargo Lane
  • Merge onto I-526 W towards Savannah
  • Turn right onto Savannah Hwy/US-17S
  • Turn left onto Main Road – towards Kiawah and Seabrook Islands
  • Main Road becomes Bohicket Road
  • Bohicket Road becomes Betsy Kerrison Parkway
  • Enter next roundabout and take the 3rd exit onto Kiawah Island Parkway
